Lindsay Ellenbogen and Grandma Sara Rosenberg, the inspiration for the Sara Start Fund.

The Sara Start Fund is named after beloved grandmother and child advocate Sara Rosenberg. Founded in 2011, we help former foster youth transition from their lives in care into the professional world. Through professional development, dedicated mentoring and a stipend for a business wardrobe, The Sara Start Fund assists the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s Foster Youth Internship program, which places former foster youth in congressional offices to advocate for the more than 463,000 youth currently in care nationwide.

We work with smart, focused young adults who are willing to spend part of their weekend with us to learn. Sara Start Fund events, held on Saturdays, explore life skills and highlight different aspects of professionalism. Our dynamic “Saturday Sessions” incorporate lessons from the area’s top professionals and are held on location at their place of business, giving our interns up-close, behind-the-scenes access. Saturday Sessions focus on such topics as dressing for the office, media training, financial literacy, resume/interview skills and cultural enrichment.

The Sara Start Fund is part of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
